THE REFERRAL PROCESS
It is your child's educational right to have a second opinion each time the district evaluates him/her.
You can obtain an IEE for your child by following the steps below:
1.
Request an IEE from the Special Education Director
After your child has been evaluated by the school district, request the IEE in writing via email to the Special Education Director. Ensure that you Cc another personnel in the SpEd Dept., typically the Director's secretary and/or a Program Specialist. Ensure that you follow up within 10 business days. If your child has not been evaluated by the school district, this should be your first step. Request that your child receive a Psycho-Educational Evaluation by the SpEd team. The IEE is mentioned in your Parent's Rights document that the district provides you when you meet to discuss their findings of your child's evaluation results. It is likely a short paragraph or two. However, it is included. Should you require more information on how to start the process, feel free to contact Dr. V at dr.veronica@neuroedclinic.com so she can help answer your questions.2.
Selecting an IEE Provider
When the IEE request has been approved, the district shall provide you with a list of at least 3 evaluators to choose from. However, this is simply to provide the parent with a starting point. The parent should interview as many IEE evaluators as possible before making a final selection.
If Neuro-Ed Clinic is not listed, the parent can still select our office. Once the parent has selected our office, the parent is to email the approval letter to Dr. V at dr.veronica@neuroedclinic.com.3.
Timeline
The Clinicians at NEC strive to provide the student with a comprehensive and thorough evaluation. From the initial phone intake until the report is released, we aim to limit the timeline to approximately 2 months. Once the report is released, all individuals gather their calendars to formulate an agreed-upon date and time when the IEE results are shared via a virtual meeting.
